Maria Kurtz | Legislator Sarah S. Anker’s Honoree
Maria Kurtz is a Registered Nurse at Stony Brook Hospital. She graduated from Nassau Community College in May of 2005 with a degree in nursing. She started her career at Huntington Hospital from June of 2005 until July of 2007. She left Huntington Hospital when she and her husband purchased their home in Coram, NY. Maria started working at Stony Brook in July of 2007 in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, part of the Oncology Department, and continues to work in that unit today. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she started working additional hours in the screening room at Stony Brook hospital. Since January of 2021, she has worked for StaffCo, a staffing agency that deals with COVID-19 patients at Stony Brook Hospital. She has also worked for the Community COVID-19 Vaccine Pods. Maria married her husband, George, 20 years ago this past March, and have two beautiful daughters, Dakota (14), and Madison (10).
