Janine Koehler | Legislator Trish Bergin's Honoree
My name is Janine Koehler. I am married & have four wonderful children, 3 here on earth and 1 in heaven. I lost my oldest son, Christian James 14 years ago to brain cancer. My husband Chris & I have lived in East Islip for 22 years. I grew up in Islip Terrace my entire life. I have three incredible siblings. My beautiful mom still resides in Islip Terrace.
I became a nurse at 19 years old. I started my nursing career as a Licensed Practical Nurse before going back to school for my Registered Nurse Degree (RN). I started my RN career at Huntington Hospital on the orthopedic unit. I worked there for approximately three years. My passion was always to be in the Operating Room. During my clinical rotation in nursing school I had the privilege to shadow an Operating Room nurse and it was there that I knew, that was the place I wanted to be. One day looking through the Sunday help wanted ads, there was an ad placed by Good Samaritan Hospital looking to train nurses to become an Operating Room Nurse.
I have been at Good Samaritan University for 18 years and I absolutely love my job. I enjoy taking care of patients and I am grateful to be surrounded by amazing people.
