About Legislator Esteban

Suffolk County Legislator Manuel Esteban is a lawyer licensed in New York, New Jersey, and U.S. District Courts. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree, with the honors of three CALI awards, from Touro Law Center in Central Islip. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, Magna Cum Laude, from The City University of New York having completed course work at Baruch and Hunter Colleges. Legislator Esteban also has a Certificate in Fundraising with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from New York University Heyman School of Philanthropy and has completed leadership training at Notre Dame University Mendoza School of Business. 

Legislator Esteban has used his legal training to provide pro bono services to those in need. He has received many awards, and a proclamation from the Town of Huntington for his community service. 

Born in Astoria, Queens, and the son of immigrant parents from Cuba and Colombia Legislator Esteban is fluent bilingual and bicultural in English and Spanish. He is proud to be the first Hispanic American elected to serve in Legislative District 16. 

In November 2021 Legislator Esteban was elected to the Suffolk County Legislature District 16 which encompasses parts of Commack, Dix Hills, East Northport, Elwood, Melville and South Huntington, Deer Park, Brentwood, and North Bay Shore. He presently serves on the following four legislative committees: Government Operations, Personnel, Information Technology & Diversity; Public Safety; Ways & Means; and Health. 

Legislator Esteban is an Eagle Scout, served as Advisory Board Member to Lower Eastside Tenement Museum, is a former Board member for Central Islip Civic Council and served as Chairman of the Town of Huntington Hispanic Advisory Task Force. He has received many academic and service awards from Touro Law Center, including the Pro Bono Service award. Con Edison awarded him the Excellence in Community Service award, and he has received recognition from United States Presidents and Vice-Presidents for his service to community. Currently Legislator Esteban is a Scout leader, in East Northport. For his service to scouting, Legislator Esteban has received recognition and award from the Jewish War Veterans. 

Legislator Esteban’s community service also includes being an overseas volunteer for the Maryknoll Lay Missioners in the high mountain region of Peru. There he helped run a rural summer school in the Andres mountains on banks of Lake Titicaca.

Legislator Esteban is a former ambulance dispatcher. As a first responder and lifeguard he has performed three water recuses and successfully used CPR mouth to mouth resuscitation to revive a person on boardwalk at Brighton Beach. 

Legislator Esteban, or “Manny” as his friends call him is a published poet, NYC Marathon finisher, and has completed in the NYC and Montauk Triathlons. 

Legislator Esteban resides in East Northport with his wife Mercedes and their seven children. 

Legislator Esteban is very approachable, available, and looks forward to meeting with constituents. He and his legislative staff have a strong focus on diversity and working to foster community harmony. Legislator Esteban leads an office focused on providing the highest level of constituent service focused on courtesy, compassion, and accessibility.
