A Message From Robert
Welcome to my homepage. Since taking office in 2014, it has been an honor for me to continue to serve as your Suffolk County Legislator. My legislative district includes Fort Salonga, Kings Park, San Remo, Nissequogue, Head of the Harbor and parts of Commack, East Northport, Smithtown, and St. James.
This year the Presiding Officer of the Legislature appointed me to the following Legislative Committees:
- Ways and Means, Chair
- Environment, Parks and Agriculture, Vice Chair
- Public Works, Transportation and Energy, Vice Chair
- Economic Development, Planning and Housing, Member
Public service has been my life. Prior to being elected a Suffolk County Legislator, I was a member of the Suffolk County Police Department for 25 years, retiring with the rank of Detective. During that time, I spent more than 10 years assigned to the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force. During my public safety career, I received the “Cop of the Year” in 1993 and “Detective of the Year” in 2001.
Since taking office, I have seen first-hand that the county is in dire financial straits, which has made me a very conscientious watchdog of the taxpayer’s dollar. I continue to monitor county spending and the imposition of fees on such important documents as deeds, alarm registrations, and other county programs. Last year, I successfully led the fight to get legislation passed and signed into law, which repeals the administrative fee for red light camera tickets issued in Suffolk County. I have also sponsored legislation to establish an Office of Inspector General, limit campaign contributions from county contractors and public unions doing business with the county.
During my tenure, it has been a pleasure to co-sponsor Blood Drives with St. Joseph’s Church in Kings Park, organize an ongoing food drive for St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry at St. Joseph’s Church, coordinate Senior Information Fairs at Fairfield St. James, Kings Park Manor and the East Northport Library, conduct an annual coat drive, as well as participate in Long Island Cares annual pet food drive, and provide numerous community educational events.
In addition, the preservation of environmentally sensitive lands remains a high priority for me. Open space enhances our quality of life and protects our water and air quality. I helped to secure 15 acres of waterfront property in Head of the Harbor and continue to pursue other properties in the Town of Smithtown and neighboring areas.
I want to thank all of our frontline and health care workers who continue to be so dedicated and committed to serving our community.
If I may be of assistance with any county-related problem or issue, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 631-854-3900. My staff and I are here to assist you.
