SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker is promoting consumer education during National Consumer Protection Week (March 3 - 9), and is encouraging residents to understand their rights and how to avoid scams.
“As the Chairwoman of the Seniors and Consumer Protection Legislative Committee, I am dedicated to helping our residents protect themselves from common scams and know their resources when reporting fraudulent activity,” said Legislator Anker. “I urge residents to be careful and cautious when receiving unsolicited phone calls or emails.”
Legislator Anker’s office has partnered with the Suffolk County Police Department to create SCPDScamAlert.org, to help the community report fraud, as well as a “Smart Seniors” brochure guide to help senior residents avoid common scams. Legislator Anker also collaborates with the New York Attorney General’s office to provide “Smart Senior” presentations to leisure communities in her district.
