RIDGE, NY – Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker recently joined the Longwood community at a Blessings in a Backpack fundraiser at Gray’s Hardware and Paints in Ridge. All proceeds went towards Blessings in a Backpack’s mission, which is to provide meals for students in need over the weekends during the school year. Currently Longwood’s chapter of Blessings in a Backpack serves nearly 400 students in the district. This event raised over $4,000 and over 500 food items to be donated.
“It is wonderful to see the community coming together to support such a great cause,” said Legislator Anker. “I would like to thank Trisha Ewald of Blessings in a Backpack, Scott Wood of Gray’s Hardware, local civics, and the fire department for the great work they are doing to serve their neighbors in need.”
Blessings in a Backpack is a national organization that strives to ensure children do not go hungry on the weekends by empowering individuals and communities to take action.
