HAUPPAUGE, NY – On Wednesday, September 4th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker honored Miller Place resident and barbershop quartet leader Fred Conway at the General Meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature. Conway was joined by his fellow members of Antiquity Barbershop Quartet in singing the National Anthem at the beginning of the meeting. Fred is also a member of the Habormen Chorus.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to recognize Fred Conway and all that he has done and accomplished within our community,” said Legislator Anker. “His kindness and talent has touched and inspired everyone he meets and I thank him wholeheartedly.”
Fred Conway served as an educator and sports coach for various teams in the Miller Place School District, earning himself the title of “Coach of the Year” several times throughout his tenure and a nomination for the Miller Place Athletic Hall of Fame. Fred currently serves as the Long Island Zone President of the New York State Retired Teachers’ Association.
Fred Conway was recently honored at the worldwide Barbershop Harmony Society in Salt Lake City, Utah for 50 years of talented service. He encourages anyone interested in singing four-part harmony to visit The Harbormen Chorus on Monday nights, except national holidays, at 7:30 p.m. for practice at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall at 380 Nicolls Road, East Setauket.
