Suffolk County Legislator Susan A. Berland honored South Huntington Union Free School District’s Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Rose Bunnell with a county proclamation and celebrated the school district’s 95th anniversary at the Board of Education’s January meeting at Walt Whitman High School.
Mrs. Rose Bunnell is the daughter of Italian immigrants who came to the United States not knowing English. This experience inspired her to become a teacher. She is a graduate of Commack High School and later attended C.W. Post where she received a bachelor’s degree in Italian language and a master’s degree in TESOL. Over the course of her 37 year career, Mrs. Bunnell has taught both Italian and Spanish to students at Walt Whitman High School and has affected the lives of so many.
“It is my distinct honor to recognize Mrs. Rose Bunnell for being named South Huntington School District’s Teacher of the Year,” said Suffolk County Legislator Susan A. Berland. “Her love of teaching is apparent and the students at Walt Whitman High School are well served by her instruction, guidance and inspiration. I was also proud to celebrate South Huntington’s 95th anniversary. The school district’s rich and vibrant history is a testament to the residents of this great community. Here’s to the next 95!”
