Legislator Gonzalez Celebrates South Middle School’s Marie F. Guilfu Library

(BRENTWOOD, NY) – Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez and New York State Senator, Monica Martinez attended the dedication ceremony of the South Middle School’s Marie F. Guilfu Library with a host of family, friends and educators from across the district.

Marie Guilfu passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the age of 44. However, during her short, exemplary life, Mrs. Guilfu’s service as President of the Park Avenue PTA, Girl Scout Troop Leader, membership in the Jack and Jill organization, Wheatley Heights Mother’s Club, and membership of the Islip NAACP Education Committee demonstrated her commitment to enriching the lives of students and uplifting her community.

Mrs. Guilfu’s career in teaching began in Bloomfield, Connecticut where she taught English. She settled on Long Island in Brentwood, NY, and advanced her career to become Assistant Principal of South Middle School in 2010.

“The newly refurbished library named after Marie Frederique Lewis Guilfu, the highly respected community leader and beloved educator who touched the lives of thousands of students during the course of her remarkable career, will serve as a learning hub in South Middle School for many years to come,” said Legislator Gonzalez.
