Today, we officially sent
a letter out to Governor Cuomo, Speaker of the Assembly, Senate Majority
Leader, Assembly Minority Leader and Senate Minority Leader regarding our
disapproval of the recently enacted “bail reform.” We are very concerned for
the safety of our constituents, Long Islanders and New Yorkers as a whole.
We looked for unanimous
agreement from all our Suffolk County Legislators but unfortunately only one of
our colleagues from the Democratic Party chose to support this memorandum.
I was hoping to get full
support from all the Legislators. Unfortunately, this partisanship needs to
stop on every level of government. We need to pay more attention to the needs
and safety of all our residents, law enforcement and first responders.
I feel as a resident and
as an elected official, we all need to speak up on the hastily executed “bail
reform” which has caused havoc within our communities.
The lack of
acknowledgement of the severity of the present “bail reform” legislation
troubles me and should trouble all New Yorkers!
The majority political
party in power that controls the State and County are not doing their jobs with
the lack of action being taken to rectify this serious injustice. The elected
in support of this legislation have shown their lack of concern for law
enforcement and our legal system.
I hope Governor Cuomo and
the other elected officials acknowledge the seriousness of their actions and
make the needed changes immediately.
