“Legislator Piccirillo delivers hundreds of masks, gloves and food to seniors across the 8th Legislative District”
On Thursday April 24th, Legislator Piccirillo announced that his district office would be collecting facemasks that would be distributed to seniors in our community. When Legislator Piccirillo noticed that our most vulnerable population were often the ones with the least amount of access to face masks; he swung into action planning a community wide face mask drive. This is in addition to the weekly community food drives his office has been hosting since early March. “There was a great need for these masks among our senior population” said the Legislator. According to the CDC, the senior population are among the most vulnerable fighting this virus. “They are afraid to leave the house to get essentials like food, especially if they don’t have a mask” he added.
Within the first 24 hours of the community face mask drive, the Legislative Office received 330 masks and 250 gloves. “I went to work right away distributing these masks to the over 50 people who originally inquired and the more than 150 inquires we received after we announced this drive on Social Media” said Legislator Piccirillo. Legislator Piccirillo, his staff and volunteers have already delivered more than 200 masks, gloves and food care packages to seniors in the 8th Legislative District. “Everyone who has received a mask has been very thankful” said the Legislator.
“I want to thank everyone who donated masks and gloves. It has been a total community effort; we have had individuals, community groups and businesses donate to this cause” said the freshman Legislator. The Legislator went on to say “I am so humbled to represent such a generous community. Whenever I call on the community members to step in and help others; they always deliver”. The mask drive that the Legislator is hosting will continue until there is no longer a need. “I want to make sure that every senior who requests a mask can receive one” added Legislator Piccirillo.
