“Legislator Piccirillo recognizes local Boy Scout Troop for donating over 1000 items to Community Food Drive”

Every Saturday since the middle of March, Legislator Piccirillo has hosted a food drive at his District Office in Holbrook. This food drive has been able to collect thousands of items of food and distribute the items to seniors and residents in need. Troop 100 of Holtsville reached out to the Legislative Office offering to help collect food and donate it to the weekly food drive. Each member of Troop 100 reached out to their circle of family, friends and neighbors. Collectively the members of Troop 100 were able to donate over 1,000 items to the Community Food Drive.

“Troop 100 delivered big to the residents of the 8th Legislative District” said Legislator Piccirillo. The amount of food they delivered was astonishing, they had to make 2 trips to deliver it all to the office. Typically, each food drive will yield between 100-500 items each day, this was triple the amount of food we typically gather over one weekend; delivered to the office in one day, by one group. “It was really great to see these young men step up in a big way for our community” added Legislator Piccirillo

“As a former Troop 100 member, I am really proud of these young men taking the initiative to make a positive impact in their community” said Piccirillo who resides in Holtsville. The Legislator sent citations to each of the young men to thank them for their efforts. “I am looking forward to the day where I can meet with each of the Troop 100 members and honor them in person for their amazing work” added Legislator Piccirillo

The food drives will continue every Saturday until there is no longer a need. The food is collected every Saturday at the district office which is located at 1609 Grundy Avenue Holbrook from 10am to 4pm. If you need some assistance or know of someone that might need a care package please call the 8th LD office at 631-854-9611 or email Anthony.Piccirillo@SuffolkCountyNY.gov; be sure to type in “Food Assistance Request” in the subject line.
