“Legislator Anthony Piccirillo passes legislation to designate the month of June as Healthcare Heroes month in Suffolk County”
On Tuesday May 19th, Suffolk County Legislator Anthony Piccirillo introduced a bill to designate the month of June as Healthcare Heroes month in Suffolk County. This bill designates every June in Suffolk County as Healthcare Heroes month. This bill is meant to honor doctors, nurses, emergency medical technicians, first responders and all Healthcare related heroes who serve the public every day and for their brave and heroic work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The bill was passed unanimously with bipartisan support at the Legislative session that ended around 2:00 am. The Bill was given a certificate of necessity by the County Executive to get to the floor of the Legislature for the meeting on Tuesday, bypassing the month-long committee process. The bill which honors our local healthcare heroes will pay tribute every year by lighting the Dennison Building up in blue every June 8th; in addition to the month long celebration and remembrance.
“I am happy to have passed this legislation to honor our local heroes” said Legislator Piccirillo. “These hard working men and women deserve to be honored for their heroic lifesaving work during the global pandemic. Suffolk County was ground zero in the United States for the pandemic and the way our Health Heroes stepped up and came together to serve us, while putting their own life on the line needs to be celebrated and remembered for years to come” stated Legislator Piccirillo. “I am honored to have sponsored this legislation” he added.
The bill also moves to pay tribute to those health heroes who got sick and those who succumbed to the COVID-19 virus in the course of treating patients. “I want to ensure that those who made the ultimate sacrifice will always be remembered” Legislator Piccirillo added. Legislator Piccirillo’s office will hold multiple special events in the month of June to commemorate the first annual Healthcare Heroes Month. The Legislator is calling on the residents in Suffolk County to participate in the upcoming Healthcare Heroes month by giving back to the healthcare heroes in our community. “Not all heroes wear capes- our heroes wear surgical masks, gloves, face shields and gowns. I am honored Suffolk County will celebrate and remember the heroic sacrifices our generation of heroes has made during the COVID-19 pandemic every June” added Legislator Piccirillo.
