“LegislatorPiccirillo honors Memorial Day by paying tribute to our heroes while social
distancing”
Every Memorial Day, thousands of LongIslanders gather to pay respects to our local heroes who gave their lives in
service to our country. This year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Memorial Dayservices looked a little different. While mass gatherings were still not
permitted under the Governor’s current executive order; gatherings of 10 orfewer were allowed while social distancing. Local Fire Departments, Veterans
Organizations and Elected Officials gathered while socially distancing to payrespect on Memorial Day.
Legislator Piccirillo attended Memorial
Day ceremonies in Sayville, Bohemia, Holbrook and Bayport. Each ceremony wasshort, and the streets and parks where crowds would normally gather were bare;
but each hamlet ensured that the fallen would never be forgotten. “It isimportant to recognize our heroes; even during these tough times” Legislator
Piccirillo said. “It is said that people die twice, once when they die, andthen again when people stop remembering them; I am honored to keep the memory of
these soldiers alive” added the Legislator. In addition to attending the fourceremonies in person, Legislator Piccirillo took to social media to wish
everyone a happy memorial day; and asked everyone to remember our fallen.
