(BAY SHORE, NY) – On Saturday, May 16, 2020, Legislator Sam Gonzalez, Tulio Serrata, President, Suffolk County Hispanic Police Association (SCHPA), and William Rodriguez, President, National Supermarket Association (NSA) announced the donation of $7,000 to two local non-profit organizations; Pronto of Long Island, Inc. and Adelante of Suffolk, Inc.
The COVID-19 pandemic prompted organizations such as Pronto and Adelante to redouble their efforts to ensure that food reaches the most vulnerable populations. However, resources and aid have been scarce due to the number of families affected by the crisis. Further compounding the predicament are the region’s highest Coronavirus infection rates and the fact that many of the residents have not received a stimulus payment from the U.S. government.
Given the growing need and dwindling resources, Legislator Gonzalez and the SCHPA petitioned the National Supermarket Association for help closing the gap. In response, the NSA donated $7,000 in financial aid to Pronto and Adelante, so the organizations could continue providing much-needed community support.
“We want the people to know that every day we seek ways to improve the quality of life for our residents, and although it is not an easy task, organizations like these respond to our call and that encourages us to continue knocking on doors. Thanks to Sergeant Tulio Serrata for his leadership during this process,” said Legislator Gonzalez.
“We want the Hispanic community to know that our association is here to always help them,” said Tulio Serrata, President Suffolk County Hispanic Police Association.
William Rodriguez, President, National Supermarket Association said, “The National Supermarket Association delivers these grants so that these wonderful organizations continue their magnificent work of helping those most in need during these difficult times.”
