(BRENTWOOD, NY) – Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez spoke with Brentwood High School 12th grade Government students about his role as a Legislator and the importance of being actively involved in politics.
Legislator Gonzalez discussed how his passion for advocacy and activism began during his career as a union shop steward. Gonzalez’s passion to protect the interests of others led him to become the President of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1430 and Legislator of the Ninth Legislative District; a district that encompasses Brentwood, Central Islip, and North Bay Shore.
“Since there is no set way to become an elected official, my advice would be to work hard, study, and find your passion. Once you have a passion for an issue or many issues, make it known and fight for that issue. Remember, my motto is defiende lo tuyo, i.e., defend what’s yours,” said Legislator Gonzalez.
