BRENTWOOD, N.Y. – The Suffolk County Legislature unanimously passed Legislator Sam Gonzalez’s resolution that requires the Suffolk County Board of Elections to publish translated election notices in a Spanish Language Newspaper at the July 21st General Meeting.
Resolution 578-2020 seeks to protect the interests of all Spanish-speaking residents who exercise their right to vote and have yearned for this information in their language. Election notices will now be publicized in the Spanish language newspaper that has the highest circulation rate in Suffolk County.
“Once again we have accomplished a significant achievement for the Spanish-speaking community, which ensures that all eligible voters have the information they will need in advance of elections,” said Legislator Gonzalez. “Suffolk County has an obligation to protect the interests of all its residents and I am proud to sponsor this legislation that delivers equality and respect for all those who have Spanish as their first language.”
Gonzalez’s resolution will take effect upon County Executive Steve Bellone’s approval and apply to all elections that the Board of Elections is involved with administering and overseeing.
