BRENTWOOD. N.Y. – On Friday, September 4, 2020, Legislator Sam Gonzalez congratulated local Suffolk County Police Athletic League (SCPD PAL) members and awarded them with certificates for their incredible work in the program. The SCPD PAL has helped change the lives of local youth and strengthened community bonds -- leaving a lasting and profound impact on our communities.
The PAL has been a recipient of the National Association of Counties Award for innovative programs and has been recently assisting Legislator Gonzalez in distributing food and other items to local senior citizens.
This year’s SCPD PAL Summer Youth Program participants consisted of the following: Chauncy Hyman, Arianna Shelton, Elizabeth Shelton, Candy Vicenti, Ciara Solomon, Dimitrios Carerna, Elijah Staine, India Bennett, Jaydah Wade, Kasha Boyd, Kevonti Broomfield, Malachi Hunter.
Legislator Gonzalez praised the program, thanking them for “their incredible community service and dedication to helping others.” Suffolk Police Officer Edward Groce, who serves as a supervisor for the program, was also thanked for his continued leadership in the community and inspiring work with the SCPD PAL.
“The Department of Labor’s summer youth workers, who were assigned to the Police Athletic League, had a myriad of responsibilities, but one of the most rewarding was working alongside Legislator Gonzalez to feed senior citizens,” Officer Groce said. “In addition to making a difference, the teens had the opportunity to learn about Legislator Gonzalez’s duties in government and were even rewarded for their hard work with a certificate.”
“I am proud to congratulate the SCPD PAL members for all of their hard work and a job well done,” said Legislator Gonzalez. “I am confident that these young men and women will continue to make our community very proud, both inside and outside of the classroom.”
Legislator Gonzalez looks forward to the continued impact of the SCPD PAL and the amazing work of those who are involved.
