Beginning in 1936, Gold Star Mother’s Day has been observed in
the United States on the last Sunday in September. The United States current recognizes the day as “Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day” to recognize thesacrifice that all Gold Star Family members make when a loved one dies in service to the nation. Every year, the Longwood Alliance and the Middle Island Civic Association organizes the Gold Star Families Day for community members to come together to commemorate those who lost their lives while serving and to honor their family members.
