CORAM, NY – Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker recently presented the Davis Town Meeting House Society with a $9,000 grant, which is awarded to organizations that benefit tourism and/or cultural programming in Suffolk County. A portion of the grant was utilized to host the 240th Coram Hay Burning celebration in October. The remainder of the grant will be utilized for community outreach regarding the organization’s upcoming events and updates. In addition to organizing community events that celebrate and honor Long Island’s history, the organization has also been working to restore the historical Lester H. Davis House in Coram.
“I want to thank the Davis Town Meeting House Society for their tireless work that enables our community to celebrate and learn about our local history,” said Legislator Sarah Anker. “It is thanks to the organization’s passion to the preservation of Long Island’s history that historic places like the Lester H. Davis house are maintained and accessible.”
“I would like to thank Legislator Sarah Anker for all her support for the omnibus grant which allowed us to have the live reenactment of Coram Hay Burning 240th Anniversary Celebration,” said Maryanne Douglas, the President of the organization. “Sarah Anker has always supported the rich history of our county and our country.”
The Davis Town Meeting House Society was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 2013 with the intention of restoring and preserving the historic landmark, the Lester H. Davis House, and educating the future generations about the history of Long Island. Due to the efforts of the Davis Town Meeting House Society, the Lester H. Davis House has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated as a Brookhaven Town Landmark.
