Babylon, NY, November 3rd, 2020: On Thursday, November 3rd, Legislator McCaffrey joined the Village of Babylon and other local officials and residents in mourning the loss of Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino.
Legislator McCaffrey and Mayor Scordino first met in 1990, when they were both serving as Trustees in the Villages of Lindenhurst and Babylon, respectively. They spent the next decades working together to serve their communities, and built a strong friendship. Mayor Scordino touched and made better countless lives- both of those he worked for and those he worked with.
In Legislator McCaffrey’s words:
I’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand the hard work, dedication and commitment Mayor Scordino had to Babylon and its residents. He inspired me to be a better public servant. Whether you knew him as a teacher, a resident or a friend, Ralph had a positive influence on you. His sudden and tragic loss is devastating to all of us. Ralph May be gone but be assured his legacy will live on in all of us.
Mayor Scordino was laid to rest on Tuesday, November 3rd, following a ceremony at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Carll Avenue.
The outpouring of support in and around the Babylon Village community these last few days has been a true testament to the number of lives Mayor Scordino touched.
Ralph truly cared about the betterment of the Village and its people. His passing is nothing less than tragic, and the wounds left by his loss will certainly take time to heal. We can rest assured, though, that his spirited work will carry on in the hands of Mayor Mary Adams and the Village Board.
Rest in Peace, my friend.
