Lindenhurst, NY: In the weeks leading up to Christmas 2020, Legislator Kevin McCaffrey participated in several toy drives benefitting local children and families.
It began on Tuesday, December 15th, when Legislator McCaffrey and District Office 14 received a donation of hundreds of toys from LyLy Rockwell, knowing that they would find a good home through the Legislator’s community involvement and relationships.
In comes Lori Novello, a longtime friend of Legislator McCaffrey who serves as the Executive Director of the Lindenhurst Community Cares Coalition and as a ranking member of Amityville-based KiDS NEED M♥RE. Lori took receipt of the gifts on behalf of KiDS NEED M♥RE, so that they could be distributed as part of the organizations holiday cheer bus campaign!
The holiday cheer bus (which has evolved to include twelve buses) delivers joy to over four hundred families around our towns who are facing cancer and other serious illnesses. Founder Melissa Firmes has dedicated countless hours of work to make the yearly event run smoothly- as planning twelve bus routes with personalized stops is certainly no small feat.
Melissa founded KiDS NEED M♥RE over two decades ago, and she has continued to spread cheer and well-being among sick children- even through her own cancer diagnosis and losing her home to Superstorm Sandy.
Following the gift exchange, Legislator McCaffrey headed to the Legislature’s William H. Rogers building, where he joined Legislators Anthony Piccirillo, Tom Donnelly, and Presiding Rob Calarco for the Suffolk County Legislature’s drive through Toys for Tots event!
I thank LyLy from the bottom of my heart for her extremely generous contribution, and Lori for her hard work in getting these toys into the hands of children in need! I also thank everyone who stopped by my office to donate, and helped make these events happen. It is rejuvenating to see so many acts of kindness in these trying times. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
Legislator McCaffrey represents Suffolk County’s 14th Legislative District which encompasses the Village of Lindenhurst, Babylon Village, the hamlets of West Babylon and North Lindenhurst, portions of Copiague, North Babylon and Babylon’s barrier beach communities.
