FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Legislator Piccirillo Passes First Sponsored Legislation of 2021”
On Tuesday March 16th, nearly one year after the covid-19 pandemic shutdown New York, Legislator Piccirillo passed his first piece of Legislation of the 2021 cycle; aimed to honor local healthcare workers. IR 1085 creates an annual program in June recognizing healthcare heroes from each Legislative District.
Last year Legislator Piccirillo sponsored Legislation that was signed into law designating the month of June as “Healthcare Heroes Month”. Healthcare Heroes month acknowledges the inspiring and selfless contributions of the frontline healthcare workers who worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic. “I was happy to receive bipartisan support from my colleagues when passing both of these important pieces of legislation” said the freshman Legislator.
Beginning this June and continuing every year after, each member of the Suffolk County Legislature shall designate a “Healthcare Hero” representing his or her respective Legislative District. Those heroes will be publicly recognized through a legislature pronouncement at the first June general meeting of the legislature each year for their contributions for serving the healthcare needs of their community. “I am happy to help recognize the work our local Healthcare Heroes do for our community through this piece of legislation” said Legislator Anthony Piccirillo.
“One recognition is not enough to say thank you for all of the work these heroes have done for Suffolk County throughout the covid-19 pandemic. I look forward to introducing additional legislation aimed to give back to our local heroes” added Legislator Piccirillo. The 1st Annual Healthcare Hero Recognition will take place at the general meeting of the Suffolk County legislature on Tuesday June 8th.
