(Smithtown, NY)…Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta recently visited Tom McHugh, formerly of Kings Park and now a resident at Whisper Woods, to present him with a proclamation acknowledging his 100th Birthday. Mr. McHugh was born in 1921 in the Bronx and moved with his parents and siblings to Kings Park when he was five years old. He and his brothers were members of the Kings Park Boys Club where he played football and learned to box. He graduated from Kings Park High School in 1940, where he met his future wife, Marion. Tom enlisted in the Marines in 1942 and served for three years. He and Marion married in 1948, and he joined the US Postal Service in 1949. Tom “walked” his route throughout Kings Park, as there were no mail trucks. He retired almost 30 years ago.
Tom and Marion had three sons and a daughter. He is a proud grandfather of four and great-grandfather of two. His beloved wife passed away five years ago and he has been a resident of Whisper Woods since 2018.
“He looks great and it was an honor to meet him and his son Pete, as well as his friends on this wonderful occasion,” said Legislator Trotta. Since he was a Marine, Staff Sergeant Christopher Rivera, from the Smithtown office of the Marines, attended and congratulated Mr. McHugh and thanked him for his service. He also presented him with a pin from the Commander. The staff at Whisper Woods provided champagne so everyone could toast Mr. McHugh on his 100 Birthday.
