MOUNT SINAI, NY – Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined Town of Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner and the Mount Sinai-Miller Place Chamber of Alliance Board of Directors to congratulate Hailey Koppleman and Sevinch Noori for receiving the 2021 Mount Sinai-Miller Place Chamber Alliance scholarship award. The award ceremony was held outside at the Willow Creek Golf and Country Club in Mount Sinai.

Congratulations to Hailey and Sevinch for receiving this year’s Mount Sinai-Miller Place Chamber Alliance scholarship award, said Legislator Anker. These two young women have already accomplished so much, especially during this past challenging year. I wish them both luck at Northeastern University and look forward to seeing what they accomplish in the future.

Each year, the Chamber Alliance awards scholarships to two local students who submit an essay about why they feel they deserve the scholarship, how they will use the award to further their education or expand on a business venture that they have already started and what community service/volunteer work they have participated in. Hailey Koppleman, a Miller Place High School senior, and Sevinch Noori, a Mount Sinai High School senior, were chosen as this year’s scholarship recipients. Hailey has volunteered with the Youth Advisory Council at NYU Children’s Hospital to help support children facing medical challenges and has created and directed several films about coping with epilepsy. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA with all honors and Advanced Placement classes while serving as President of the Miller Place Service Club, being a member of the National Honor Society and Miller Place Student Government, and a gymnast. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she organized and facilitated two virtual events that she used to spread messages of hope across the community.

Sevich has volunteered for many organizations, including Hoops for Hope, Tour de Cure, Save-A-Pet, Heritage Trust and Sarcoidosis of Long Island. She is graduating this year in the top six percent of her graduating class and is a member of the Mount Sinai Student Government, Peer Leaders and National Honor Society, as well as a girls’ basketball coach for youth girls’ basketball programs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she organized a food drive for the Olsten Family Center. She is a Computer Science major who aspires to own her own tech base company to help families from war stricken and third world countries. Both Hailey and Sevinch will be attending Northeastern University next fall. For more information, please contact Legislator Anker’s office at (631) 854-1600.
