Legislator Steven J. Flotteron recognized Nicholas Scarmozzino of Troop 95 for earning his Eagle Scout Honors. He began scouting at six-years-old as a Tiger Cub Scout and achieved the Arrow of Light, the highest honor of Cub Scouts. Since bridging to Boy Scout Troop 95 I 2015, Nichols earned 80 merit badges, 12 Eagle palms and volunteered over 300 hours of community service.
Nicholas demonstrated leadership with his Eagle Scout Project for the West Islip Public Library where he installed a community bench and children’s coloring table in September, 2020. Due to the pandemic, he had numerous setbacks in fundraising for his project but was able to raise funds through his GoFundMe campaign which also uplifted community spirits. He witnessed firsthand the effects of COVID-19 which included his grandfather. He dedicated his project to him and all the frontline workers.
