Legislators Recognize Alliance of Chambers & Local 66 For Partnership on Kayak Storage Rack Program

Canoe & Kayak Storage Rack Proclamations

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK – At the June 22nd General Meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature, Majority Leader Susan A. Berland (D-Dix Hills) and her colleagues presented proclamations to representatives from the Suffolk Alliance of Chambers and Laborers Local 66 Union for their contributions to the Suffolk County Canoe and Kayak Storage Rack Pilot Program. The program, which launched this summer, was made possible through a public-private partnership between the County, the Suffolk Alliance of Chambers and Laborers Local 66 Union. The material used to construct the racks was donated by the Suffolk Alliance of Chambers and coordinated by its co-chairs Gina Coletti and Bob Fonti, with the labor donated by Joe Montalbano and Josh Slaughter from Laborers Local 66.

“I want to thank the Suffolk County Alliance of Chambers and Laborers Local 66 Union, specifically, Gina, Bob, Joe and Josh, for their commitment to making this program a reality this summer,” said Legislator Susan A. Berland. “As a result of their generosity and hard work, many residents have already reserved their kayak or canoe storage space and are more easily able to access and enjoy the water in our beautiful Suffolk County parks and beaches.”

This initiative, sponsored by Legislator Berland, allows residents to rent a storage space to lock their kayak or canoe at one of six county parks and beaches from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. The program was unanimously approved by both the Suffolk County Parks Trustees and then the Suffolk County Legislature at the May 11th General Meeting.

Permits can be purchased in-person through the Suffolk County Parks Department at the West Sayville Administration Building (200 Montauk Highway, West Sayville). For Suffolk County residents who are Green Key Card holders there is a $100 fee for a seasonal permit and a $250 fee for non-residents. Those interested in reserving a space may download the form online at https://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/Parks/Doing-Business/Seasonal-Kayak-Canoe-Storage-Rentals.
