MELVILLE, NY – Suffolk County Majority Leader Susan A. Berland was pleased to join The Greens at Half Hollow community, and Teams “Tiger Cubs” and “Blumberg Strides for Sunrise” for the annual SunriseWALKS event to raise funding and awareness for Sunrise Day Camp–Long Island, the world's first full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, offered completely free of charge. Sunrise Day Camp–Long Island is a program of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the simple joys of childhood to children impacted by pediatric cancer. In addition to the day camp, they offer year-round programs and in-hospital recreational activities to families at no cost. This year’s walkathon goal is to raise $1,000,000; currently, more than $880,000 has been raised across Long Island!
“I applaud Michele Tiger, Linda Levine and Roberta Weinroth for organizing this event to support the great work that the Sunrise Association does for children with pediatric cancer in our community and world-wide,” said Legislator Susan A. Berland. “I want to thank all the residents who participated and remind everyone that there’s still time to make a donation for campers to attend this summer. If you have the means, please consider making a contribution.”
“My family and I (Tiger Foundation) became involved 15 years ago with the Sunrise Day Camp to bring back joy to children with cancer and their siblings. Every year our team, the Tiger Cubs, have been part of this unbelievable fundraiser. This year our team of family and friends raised over $11,000 to give children a 2021 fun summer at no cost to them! Go Tigers!” stated Michele Tiger of Team Tiger Cubs.
"We are so thrilled that two of our key SunriseWALKS supporters – the Tiger & Blumberg families, along with members from The Greens – teamed up to raise over $20,000 for Sunrise Day Camp," said Aileen Hoffman, Sunrise Association Vice President of SunriseWALKS. "Together, with the extraordinary help of Susan Berland, they walked in their community to raise awareness and help Sunrise bring back the magic to children with cancer and their siblings."
