Mastic, N.Y. – Newly-elected Suffolk County Legislator Jim Mazzarella is finishing his first month in office and is already working tirelessly to represent the residents of the 3rd District. After being sworn into office on June 8th, Legislator Mazzarella wasted no time in rolling up his sleeves to ensure the continuation of services in the 3rd Legislative District. Legislator Mazzarella has already signed on as co-sponsor of 14 pieces of legislation and has packed his schedule with daily meetings with Community Leaders, Department Heads, Government Officials, and various members of his constituency.
He has done all this while also performing his duties to his legislative committees and as a Suffolk County Community College Budget Working Group member. His legislative committees include: Education & Labor; Economic Development, Planning & Housing; and Public Safety.
"I am proud of all the work I have accomplished in my first month as a legislator," stated Jim Mazzarella. "I want to ensure that I am doing everything within my power to be as effective as possible and deliver for the residents of the 3rd Legislative District."
In addition to working on legislation, Legislator Mazzarella has met with or scheduled meetings with local civic organizations like the Pattersquash Creek Civic Association, the Mastic Beach Property Owners Association, the Yaphank Historical Society, the Yaphank Civic Association, the Bellport Hagerman East Patchogue Alliance, and the Greater Bellport Coalition.
To familiarize himself with all aspects of Suffolk County government, he has met with Suffolk County Department Heads in the Parks Department, Personnel and Civil Service, the Department of Public Works, Economic Development and Planning, Social Services, Health Services, Transit, as well as the command staff at the 7th Police Precinct.
Legislator Mazzarella has also taken the time to schedule visits throughout the District with the Arthur H. Clune American Legion Post 1533 of Mastic Beach, Long Island Compost in Yaphank, the Center for Environmental Education and Discovery in Brookhaven Hamlet, The Boys and Girls Club of Bellport, St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church in Mastic Beach, the Gateway in Bellport, and the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank.
Additionally, Legislator Mazzarella met with Bellport Village Mayor Ray Fell to discuss how they can work together to benefit their mutual constituents. He also has meetings on the horizon with both PSE&G and the Suffolk County Water Authority to discuss utility services in Suffolk County, and he will be meeting with Caitlyn Michiels of Caitlyn's Vision to learn about her advocacy work for children's eye health.
"When I got elected, I wanted to hit the ground running to ensure that there was no lapse in services for the residents of the 3rd Legislative District," Stated Mazzarella.
"As demonstrated by my work in my first month as Legislator, I am confident that we are moving forward and making progress," he continued.
