(Smithtown, NY)…Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta, who worked tirelessly to save the old Kings Park Psychiatric Center’s property from being developed for housing and, instead, turned into a state park, was on hand for the grand opening of the refurbished and renovated Administration Building and Visitors Center at the Nissequogue S River State Park.  Through the Reichert Foundation, Helen and Charlie Reichert made a pledge to fund the renovation of the park’s Administration Building and Visitors Center, including a new heating and air conditioning system and an elevator, making the building accessible. In addition, he recently donated the new flagpole at the main entrance to the park grounds, landscaped the surrounding area and funded three new benches for the site.

Legislator Trotta was one of the speakers at the grand opening and renaming of the administration building and thanked Charlie Reichert and his daughter, Tammy, and their family for their commitment to the community and for enhancing the Nissequogue River Park. “It is an honor to know Charlie Reichert and I have the utmost respect for him and appreciate everything that he does for this park, for numerous other organizations and the residents of LI,” added Trotta.

Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta is at the podium where he thanked the Reichert family for their generosity and fortitude for preserving the park. In the back are Richard Remmer, NYS Parks Commission, NYS Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick, Deputy County Executive Peter Scully, Mike Rosato, Nissequogue River State Park Foundation Board Member, NYS Senator Mario Mattera, Tammy Reichert, Charles Reichert, NYS Parks Commissioner Erik Kulleseid, Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta, Keith Corbett, Regional Parks Commission, LI Regional Parks Director George “Chip” Gorman, and Desmond Ryan, NYS Parks Commission.
