CORAM, NY- Saturday April 2nd, 2022—Suffolk County Legislator Dominick Thorne (R-7th LD) joined community groups, residents, and other elected officials at a large-scale clean-up in Coram. The event is part of the Take Back 25 effort, which focused on the long-awaited clean-up of the Route 25 Corridor area, including Coram, Gordon Heights, and Middle Island.

“The 25 Corridor has been neglected for too long, and the residents deserve better,” said Thorne. “The condition of the area does not reflect the beautiful communities it traverses. We are going to change that.”

The clean-up, which took place on April 2nd, brought together more than 300 members of the surrounding communities, Suffolk County elected officials, commissioners, and many other invested organizations in coordination with Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilman Mike Loguercio.

The Take Back 25 initiative also emphasizes public safety. The first step was Thorne’s efforts to transform a blighted bus stop in Coram, the site of drug peddling and other illegal activities, surrounded by litter.

“With the help of the Suffolk County Police Commissioner and the hard-working men and woman of the 6th Precinct, we are ushering in a new era of safety in our communities,” said Thorne. “We have made tremendous progress in a short amount of time, thanks to the combined efforts of the county, the community, and the Town of Brookhaven.”

For more information, please call Legislator Thorne’s office at 631-854-1400, or follow his Facebook page and county website. “My one focus is to put the people first, to do everything we can to provide a safe environment for every resident,” said Thorne. “I will work closely with every other municipality to accomplish this goal. We are better and stronger together, and this is just the first effort that my office will put forward to accomplish that goal.”
