Huntington, N.Y. – On June 10, Suffolk County Legislator Stephanie Bontempi (R-18th L.D.) honored Huntington resident, Deborah Misir, a Marine Corps veteran, as part of the Suffolk County Legislature’s Women Veterans Appreciation Day celebration. Women Veterans Appreciation Day is officially on June 12th and this year marks its third year of existence.
“Deborah is a true renaissance woman, who absolutely everyone can look up to, both young and old, male or female,” said Bontempi. “If I ever have to give an example of hard work and sacrifice leading to great things, I would point to Deborah. We are so lucky to have her here in Suffolk County.”
Deborah Misir is currently the Town Attorney for the Town of Huntington and was serving in private practice just prior to her appointment by the Town Board. In addition to her military background, she held a variety of leadership positions in the George W. Bush administration. As if all of this were not enough, Misir also serves as an adjunct professor of law at Touro Law Center.
“Perhaps the best aspect of Women Veterans Appreciation Day is its local nature – each legislator has the opportunity to select one of his or her very own residents to honor. This is a great reminder that heroes live all around us,” added Bontempi.
