Huntington, N.Y. – On July 8th, at her district office, Legislator Stephanie Bontempi (R-18th L.D.) personally thanked her 2022 Healthcare Hero, Dr. Jack Geffken. Geffken, a resident of Centerport, was chosen due to his impressive commitment to the internal medicine field, in addition to his seemingly endless contributions as a volunteer in the emergency services.
Geffken volunteers his time as an E.M.S. medical director for a wide variety of emergency service agencies at the local and federal levels. Moreover, he is currently serving as both a member of the Centerport Fire Department and as an elected commissioner of the Centerport Fire District. All of this volunteer activity is on top of his primary occupation as an internist at NYU Ambulatory Care at Bethpage.
“Suffolk County is extremely lucky to have such a dedicated and talented professional in the healthcare field like Dr. Geffken,” said Bontempi. “He exemplifies the kind of person we can all look up to. He loves his community, he is committed to his profession and has a passion for going above and beyond the call of duty.”
As part of Healthcare Hero Month (June) every year, each legislator has the opportunity to recognize someone in the field for his or her extraordinary contributions. This year’s Healthcare Heroes from each of Suffolk County’s eighteen legislative districts were formally honored at the Legislature’s general meeting on June 22nd in Riverhead, where their biographies were read on the record. Given the varying schedules of those in the healthcare field, presenting each honoree with their official proclamation at the respective district offices was more feasible.
