WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, June 12th, Presiding Officer McCaffrey, accompanied by County Executive Steve Bellone, met with Representatives Nick LaLota and Andrew Garbarino along with Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand to discuss funding for county-wide initiatives.

“As Suffolk County continues to undertake numerous infrastructure, water quality, and transportation improvement projects, it is imperative that we secure financial and logistical support from our federal partners to provide the best possible services to our constituents at the right cost,” McCaffrey said of his visit to D.C.

Some of the topics discussed were county sewer expansion, downtown revitalization as well as upgrading and maintaining county roads. Representative LaLota was resolute in his efforts “to bring federal dollars back home” for these initiatives as a result of his meeting with McCaffrey and Bellone.

Nick LaLota has represented New York’s 1st Congressional District since 2023. His district includes the Hamptons, Shelter Island and all of Suffolk County’s north shore.

Andrew Garbarino has represented New York’s 2nd Congressional District since 2021. His district includes Suffolk County’s south shore from the Suffolk-Nassau border to Eastport as well as the southern portions of Massapequa and Massapequa Park.

Chuck Schumer has represented New York in the Senate since 1999 and currently serves as the chamber’s Majority Leader.

Kirsten Gillibrand has represented New York in the Senate since 2009.

After a productive round of meetings McCaffrey returned to Suffolk County confident in the support the County has from those representing it in Congress. “I thank Congressman Nick LaLota, Senator Chuck Schumer, Rep. Andrew Garbarino, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for their hospitality and cooperation on these matters and look forward to continuing to work with them to promote the best interests of Suffolk County.”

The Suffolk County Legislature’s Presiding Officer, Legislator Kevin McCaffrey represents Suffolk County's 14th Legislative District, which encompasses the Villages of Lindenhurst and Babylon, the hamlets of West Babylon and North Lindenhurst, portions of Copiague, North Babylon, and Babylon's barrier beach communities.
