Riverhead, NY – On Tuesday, March 7th, 2023, Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey honored Alice Cromarty as Legislative District 14’s 2023 Woman of Distinction at the general meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature.
Alice Cromarty has been a member of the Lindenhurst Historical Society since 1959 and served as its President from 2005-2007. She also served as the Vice President of the Narragansett Villas Homeowner’s Association where she still holds the title of Building Captain. Currently she serves on the Board of Directors for the Business Improvement District of Lindenhurst and is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst, NY, Inc. as well as the Babylon Rotary Club.
Her commitment to service is also demonstrated in her teaching career where she taught at a school in Fairfax County, Virginia. In 1994 she began work as a Theatrical Press Agent on Broadway representing Broadway productions, staff, tours, etc. She would return to teaching at St. William the Abbot School in Seaford from 1994-2015 where she would advise the school’s Drama Club.
Her belief in the power of the arts has led to her serving on the Executive Board of the Babylon Citizens of the Arts – bacca, overseeing Membership, Fundraising and Publicity. Alive also works to advance the arts county-wide through her membership in the Suffolk County Citizens Advisory Board for the Arts and her work at the Suffolk County Children’s Center at the Cohalan Court Complex.
Alice has had many unique opportunities throughout her storied adult life, such as being in charge of ticketing for President Nixon’s Second Inaugural Parade and the Literacy Programs for the White House Egg Roll run by the George W. Bush White House. She has also volunteered at Büdingen Army Base near Frankfurt, Germany.
She has been previously honored by the U.S. House of Representatives for her role in founding Old Dominion Cotillion, a Virginia-based, family-operated, women’s social organization focused on helping her daughter’s gain the knowledge and confidence to succeed in their adult lives.
Alice is the mother of two daughters whom she has imparted the importance of service to other upon and has six grandchildren. Legislator McCaffrey said “I am proud to represent community leaders like Alice, and am thankful for the work she does to maintain the history of Legislative District 14. Thank you, Alice, and congratulations”, in a statement congratulating Alice Cromarty.
