LINDENHURST, NY – On Tuesday, February 21st, 2023, Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey hosted a Citizens Preparedness Training event at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library.
The event, which was co-sponsored by New York State Senator Alexis Weik, had the goal of educating local residents on the importance of disaster preparedness as extreme weather events continue to increase in frequency. The event educated residents on matters related to natural and man-made disasters alike, emphasizing giving residents the ability to plan for, respond to, and recover from any potential disaster scenario.
Representatives from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services and the New York Army National Guard gave residents advice on how to best plan for a potential disaster. Such advice included guidance on developing family emergency plans as well as what supplies people should stock up on.
Every family that attended the event was given a free Preparedness Kit which included emergency supplies such as first aid materials, a flashlight, hand and eye protection, and emergency drinking water.
More than 50 residents of the surrounding community took the opportunity to get educated on the matter of emergency preparedness and left with a greater ability to respond to whatever disasters may come their way in the future.
