I had the pleasure of presenting Elysena DeStefano, a resident of Commack, with a Suffolk County Proclamation for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can achieve. To become a Gold Award Girl Scout, you have to identify an issue that is important to you, then develop and carry out an innovative and sustainable solution that will have a measurable impact. Each project must link to a national or global issue.
Elysena DeStefano is a member of Troop 1955 and Service Unit #615 who has proven her dedication to the Girl Scout mission. Her project consisted of making an outdoor learning library with a teacher bench, platform and inspirational sign. She chose environment and sustainability as the theme for her project.
Legislator Esteban said, “I am so proud of Elysena DeStefano for her dedication and tireless efforts to complete her project. I know the outdoor learning library will be enjoyed by all for many years to come." He added, "she truly exemplifies the values of leadership, character, service and dedication and I wish her only the best in her future endeavors."
