SHOREHAM, NY – On Saturday, January 6, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined Boy Scout Troop 161 at St. Mark’s Church in Shoreham for an Eagle Scout Ceremony honoring Ryan Doolan, Ryan Ledda, Tyler Offut, Charles Vesely, and Dominic Vesely. Eagle Scout is the highest rank that a scout can receive and requires the scouts to earn 21 merit badges, complete a community service project, and undergo a lengthy review process.
“Shoreham’s Troop 161 is one of Suffolk County’s largest scout troops. Eagle Scout is a prestigious honor achieved by only 5% of all Boy Scouts across the nation,” said Legislator Anker. “It’s an honor to recognize the young men who have worked hard to help others and make Suffolk County a better place. They are role models for their peers and leaders of our community.”
As part of the Eagle Scout process, the honorees were required to complete a community service project. For his project, Ryan Doolan built an information kiosk for the Tesla Science Center. Ryan Ledda designed and constructed a memorial for Thomas Cutinella at the Shoreham-Wading River High School. Tyler Offut helped to create a military memorial at the Long Island State Veteran’s Home. Charles Vesely built Carpet Ball tables for the children at Little Flower in Wading River. Lastly, Dominic Vesely painted the preschool at St. Isidore Church in Riverhead.
