Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Rocky Point

ROCKY POINT, NY- On Sunday, March 11th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker participated in the 68th Annual Rocky Point St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Legislator Anker was joined by local elected officials, Friends of St. Patrick volunteers, Parade Grand Marshal Andrew J. Street, Parade Queen Jordan McClintock, and her Ladies-in-Waiting Miranda Navas and Melanie Weidman. Following the parade, Legislator Anker joined the Rocky Point VFW for their post-parade celebration, which included a hearty meal of corned beef and cabbage.

“The Rocky Point St. Patrick’s Day parade is always a fun and exciting event that brings the community together,” said Legislator Anker. “I would like to thank all of the many volunteers and participants for their warm hearts and dedicated efforts to ensuring the parade’s success!”

In 1950, local businessman John M. Sullivan and George Faulkner formed the Friends of Saint Patrick. The group pledged to provide the community with an opportunity to reconnect with friends and neighbors after the long winter they endured. The first parade occurred on March 11, 1951 and followed the same three mile route it follows today along 25A from Miller Place to Broadway in Rocky Point.

This year’s Grand Marshal, Andrew J. Street, is the owner and Chef of The Hartlin Inn in Sound Beach, and has been a member of the Friends of St. Patrick since 2001.  The parade queen, Jordan McClintock, is a senior at Shoreham Wading-River High School.  One of her Ladies-in-Waiting, Miranda Navas, is a senior at Rocky Point High School, and the second Lady-in-Waiting, Melanie Weidman, is a self-employed model and dancer.
