During a special ceremony before his
family, friends, fellow troop members, advisors and local dignitaries on March
11, Deer Park resident and student Travis Michalek received his Eagle Scout
award, the highest recognized achievement bestowed by the Boy Scouts of America
to its members. Mr. Michalek’s Court of Honor was held at the Deer Park
Firehouse where he received many accolades for his distinction, including a
Proclamation presented to him from Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly
(D-Huntington Station).
Mr.
Michalek’s Eagle Scout project involved building two cedar benches and
installing new seating at the May Moore Elementary School playground. In addition to organizing and completing his
own project, Mr. Michalek has assisted his fellow Boy Scouts in Troop 86 in
completing their Eagle Scout projects. He also has an impressive community
service record, including volunteering at the Deer Park Lion’s Club Pancake
Breakfast, the Veteran’s Parade in New York City, the Deer Park Fire Department
September 11th Remembrance Ceremony, the annual Ray Downey Father’s
Day Run and the Town of Babylon POW-MIA Vigil.
“Travis Michalek has demonstrated his dedication to
community, not just in completing his Eagle Scout project, but also through
leadership, service and character,” Legislator Donnelly said. “I am proud to recognize him for his
outstanding contributions and wish him much continued success.”
