Elaine Faith Thompson
of Bohemia unveiled her depiction of the "Shinnecock 18th Hole and Willie
Davis," the portrait she created for the 2018 U.S. Open Championship during
an artist’s reception on Sunday, April 29, at Bellport Community Center. Legislator
Steven J. Flotteron and Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter congratulated
Thompson on being chosen to create a limited edition, fine art print
commemorating the 118th U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills
Golf Club in Southampton to be held this year from June 14 to 17.
Thompson is a Long
Island-based artist who has worked on paintings for the USGA championships in
the New York Metropolitan area, her first being for the 2002 U.S. Open at
Bethpage State Park’s Black Course. She is known for her local scenes such as East
End lighthouses, The Big Duck, Theodore Roosevelt’s home at Sagamore Hill. Her
highest tribute was receiving a commission from President Ronald Reagan for the
official poster design of the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial Statue in
Washington, D.C..
