Summer Senior Advocates Schedules Set for Babylon and Huntington

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Summer 2018 Senior Advocate Schedule.  Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“Now that the warm weather is here, it’s a pleasant and perfect time for our local senior citizens to come out and meet with the County’s senior advocates in their own communities and get the information and assistance they need,” said Legislator Donnelly.

This summer, Suffolk County Senior Advocates will be visiting the following locations in the Town of Babylon:

·        Deer Park Library, 44 Lake Avenue, Deer Park: Fridays, July 20 & September 14, 9 – 11 am

·        Lindenhurst Library, 1 Lee Avenue, Lindenhurst: Monday, August 27, 10 – 11:30 am

·        North Amityville Nutrition Center, 48-C Cedar Road, Amityville: Tuesdays, July 10, 10 am – 1 pm,  August 7, 10 am – 12 pm & September 11, 10 am – 1 pm

·        Rainbow Center, 293 Buffalo Avenue, Lindenhurst: Wednesdays, July 11, 8:30 – 11:30 am,  August 1 & September 5, 8:30 – 11 am

·        Spangle Drive Center, 483 Spangle Drive, North Babylon: Mondays, July 2, August 6 & September 10, 8:30 – 11:30 am

·        Tanner Park Nutrition Center,#2 Tanner Park, Copiague: Wednesdays, July 18, 8:30 am -12:30 pm,  August 22 & September 19, 8:30 am – 1 pm

·        West Babylon Library, 211 Route 109, West Babylon: Thursdays, July 26 & September 27, 10 am – 1 pm

·        Wyandanch Nutrition Center, 28 Wyandanch Avenue, Wyandanch: Fridays, July 13 & 27,  August 10 & 24,  & September 7 & 21, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

 In Huntington, they will be visiting the following:

·        Elwood Library, 1929 Jericho Turnpike, East Northport, Friday, August 17, 11 am – 1 pm

·        Huntington Library, 338 Main Street, Huntington: Mondays, July 16 & September 10, 10 am – 12 pm

·        Huntington Senior Nutrition Center, 423 Park Avenue, Huntington: Wednesdays, July 25, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm, August 29 & September 26, 8:30 am – 12 pm

·        Paumanack Village V & VI, 100 Adriatic Drive, Melville: Thursdays, July 26, August 23 & September 27, 8:30 – 11:30 am

Advocates assist with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP – formerly known as food stamps), Medicare Savings Program and Heating Emergency Assistance Program (HEAP) applications.  They also can provide information on Medicare, answer questions and make recommendations and referrals.  For more information about available services or directions to any of these locations, please call the Suffolk County Office for the Aging at (631) 853-8200.  

“For over 30 years, the Suffolk County Office for the Aging has been providing full and trouble-free access to critical services for our local seniors,” Donnelly said.  “I am glad to see their great professional community outreach program continue and hope that every senior resident will make full use of it.”
