Suffolk County Legislator Al Krupski, who represents residents of the First Legislative District living in Southold, Riverhead and eastern Brookhaven, has been named chair of the Legislature’s Capital Budget Working Group. Legislator Krupski has served on the both the Capital and Operating Budget Working Groups every year since first being elected to the legislature in 2013.
The Capital Budget Working Group is charged with reviewing County Executive Steve Bellone’s 2018 – 2020 Capital Program & Budget proposal which was released last month, and recommending changes which will then be considered by the entire Legislature. The group will begin meeting next week after the Legislature’s Budget Review Office releases its evaluation of the County Executive’s proposed budget.
“I congratulate Legislator Krupski on his appointment as Chair of the Capital Working Group, a vitally important role that calls for a steady hand at the helm,” said Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory. “I believe he will do an excellent job as he has illustrated as a member of the Suffolk County Legislature. His decisiveness and diplomacy will be tremendous assets as he balances the needs of the diverse communities within the county. I wish him well.”
In addition to Legislator Krupski, the other members of the Capital Budget Working Group are Presiding Officer Gregory, Legislators Kate M. Browning, Robert Calarco, Bridget Fleming, Leslie Kennedy, Monica Martinez and Kevin J. McCaffrey.
The Capital Budget Committee meetings, which are separate and apart from the Capital Budget Working Group meetings, are being held at the Legislature in Hauppauge on Wednesday May 17th and Thursday May 18. This will be the opportunity for the public to give input on the Capital Budget process. The Capital Budget Committee meeting schedule will be available next week on the Legislature’s website.
“A broad range of capital initiatives will be considered including those which will improve the county’s roads, parks and campuses of Suffolk Community College as well as investments in water quality improvements and energy upgrades that will save the county money in the long run,” said Legislator Krupski. “I thank Presiding Officer Gregory for this appointment and look forward to working with my colleagues in the upcoming weeks to put forth a reasonable budget plan that will serve the residents of Suffolk County well.”
