Holtsville, N.Y. – On April 11, 2018, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker was the guest speaker at the Suffolk Independent Living Organization (SILO) Transportation Committee meeting in Holtsville. Suffolk Independent Living Organization is a community group that is dedicated to advocating for Suffolk County residents with disabilities and providing them with beneficial resources to help improve their quality of life. Legislator Anker opened up the dialogue by asking members of the Transportation Committee for their specific questions and concerns.
“Transportation is an issue that affects so many of our disabled residents in Suffolk County,” said Legislator Anker. “SILO provides a strong voice for our residents with special needs and disabilities. SILO’s Transporation Committee focuses on improving public transporation’s funding, process and overall condition of fleet services. I commend their efforts to engage and assist government agencies and policy makers.”
The Suffolk Independent Living Organization Transportation Committee meetings are held once a month. Its committee members range from county officials, social workers, and partners from other community agencies. The committee advocates for safety, accessibility and affordability, and works to educate the public on the use of the transit system.
