Legislator Anker Congratulates BNL Science Fair Winners at General Meeting

BNL Winners 2018

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. – On Tuesday, June 5th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker congratulated and presented proclamations to Marah Palank and Natalie Chakaberia, two Brookhaven National Laboratory Science Fair winners from Rocky Point’s Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School. Over 100 Suffolk County schools take part every year in BNL's Elementary School Science Fair. Some 470 projects, created by over 500 Suffolk County children ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade, compete. Marah won in the First Grade category, and Natalie won in the Second Grade category.

“My sincerest congratulations to these two incredibly smart and talented students on their hard work and creativity which helps to inspire our future scientists. They have made myself, their families, and teachers very proud,” said Legislator Anker. “I thank BNL for hosting this contest every year.”

Marah Palank, a first grader from Rocky Point, won at the BNL Science Fair for her science project, “The Porridge Problem.” Inspired by the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Marah measured the temperature of bowls of porridge based on bowl and container size.

Natalie Chakaberia, a second grader from Rocky Point, also won at the BNL Science Fair for her project, “Think About Ink,” in which she experimented which fruit or vegetable would make the best purple ink. She was inspired by the magical correcting ink from the famous Harry Potter series.
