Members of the Legislature to Send Home Rule Message to Protect Farmland Preservation in Suffolk

WHAT:  Members of the Suffolk County Legislature are expected to approve a Home Rule Message at next Tuesday’s General Meeting of the Legislature which requests the State of New York enact legislation to protect farming in Suffolk County.

Legislation has been introduced at the state level by NYS Senator Ken LaValle and Assemblyman Fred Thiele which seeks to remedy the uncertainty in the agricultural industry created by a recent NYS Supreme Court ruling in response to a lawsuit against Suffolk County.  The goal of the legislation is to restore confidence and participation in the county’s Farmland Protection Program.
