HAUPPAUGE, NY – On Sunday, October 28th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker attended the 29th Annual Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) Peter Sweisgood Breakfast at the Radisson Hotel in Hauppauge. The breakfast is named in honor of Father Peter Sweisgood, a past Executive Director of LICADD, whose passion and enthusiasm for helping people lead sober lives earned him the title of “Fisher of Men” for his lifelong achievement. At this event every year, LICADD honors an individual who has also dedicated their life’s work to help those seeking recovery with the “Fisher of Men” award. This year’s recipient was Kym Laube, the Executive Director of Human Understanding Growth Services (HUGS), Inc. Laube has over 28 years of substance use prevention expertise which she has used to expand the organization’s prevention services and initiatives.
“My sincerest congratulations and thanks to Kym Laube and LICADD for all that they do to bring support to those struggling with addiction and prevention services to our communities,” said Legislator Anker. “The resources they provide are invaluable in combating the substance abuse epidemic in our country.”
Established in 1956, LICADD offers evidence-based programs to prevent alcoholism, treat substance abuse, and promote addiction recovery. For more information, please visit www.licadd.org.
