Suffolk Legislators Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station and Rudy Sunderman (R-Mastic) , both volunteer firefighters, recently participated in a Medal of Valor ceremony honoring fellow volunteer firefighters for bravery.
The 15 recipients put their personal safety at risk to rescue others from danger. Several fire service instructors were also honored for excellence.
“Volunteers go above and beyond, taking time away from their families and putting their lives on the line in order to help the community,” Legislator Sunderman said. “While this recognition singles out individuals for their exemplary work within the past calendar year, it is also important to remember that all volunteers deserve recognition for making their community a safer place to live.”
“I want to congratulate all who serve and protect our residents from harm,” Legislator Donnelly said. “Thanks to their willingness to step forward, we are all more secure in our daily lives.”
The Vocational Education and Extension Board ceremony was held Sept. 30 at the Brookhaven Fire Department.
