Suffolk County Legislator
Steven J. Flotteron (R) co-sponsored the “RISE ACT” in the Suffolk County
Legislature following a lively debate during the General Meeting on November 20.
“I had reservations about
the constitutional issue of free speech and whether this particular law would
be effective,” said Flotteron. “However, after listening to my colleagues and hearing
the passion with which they argued their case, I was persuaded that this was
the right thing to do and I decided to co-sponsor the law.”
The RISE ACT prohibits
employers in Suffolk County from asking potential employees questions about
their salary history. The goal is to help close the gender wage gap.
“I look forward to
working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find new and
innovative ways to solve this problem,” said Flotteron.
