Chair of Health Committee Makes Deliberate Statement on IR# 2128; Legislation to Protect Children from Addiction to Enticing Flavored Vape Products
Hauppauge: For multiple years, Legislator William R. Spencer, M.D. has heard from parents, educators and health care professionals, all expressing a profound concern regarding the rapid proliferation of e-cigarette use among students. A recent study verifies their concerns and indicates that over the course of a single year, there has been an 80% increase in e-cigarette use of high schoolers and 50% of middle schoolers. Research also shows that 81% of children who reported using e-cigarettes, used a flavored product the first time they vaped.
The growing concern, coupled with a mounting body of evidence based research has led Legislator Spencer to propose a bill to limit the sale of flavored nicotine in an effort to protect the health and safety of youth.
